Membership
Cosmopolitan Inc. – The Ladies of Washington is a progressive, forward-thinking organization devoted to further enriching the lives of young, successful African American women and dedicated to serving the female population and the community as a whole. We are a selective organization. In an attempt to dispel the myth that African American women cannot co-exist as beautiful, healthy, educated and enlightened individuals, we only accept women into our organization that are mature and self-assured enough to uphold our creed.
We pride ourselves in the ability to uphold our Cosmo Creed as a group, as well as individually:
We encourage strength, initiative, spirituality, tenacity, unity, health and ambition through community service, education, activism, and association of people. We will promote an environment amongst ourselves that is conducive to learning about our history, our present, and how we will affect the future. We are strengthened, blessed and relieved at not having to all be the same. We are the women who know that all issues affecting the African American community are OUR issues, and will reclaim our wisdom, reinvent our tomorrow, and redefine everything. We are each precious, unique, and necessary. We operate in a spirit of sisterhood and positive energy, with secure interiors - of heart, home and esteem. With this knowledge, we will perform community outreach and establish long-lasting relationships, thereby providing a higher standard of dignity and pride among the African American community. We are poised on the edge of a transition - drama behind us, and a map that WE will create before us. We will make Cosmopolitan Inc. real and our own, making policy, history, peace, and making available: difference, friendships, connections, success and miracles!
Requirements
The Ladies of Cosmopolitan Inc. must be 25 years of age or older, commit to participating in four community service activities per year, attend quarterly business meetings, and actively participate in the group through activities, service or input. Our members benefit from the fellowship of like-minded women with similar interests and goals.
Chapters
The Ladies of Philadelphia: Cosmopolitan Inc. has expanded to Philadelphia! Our Philadelphia chapter is directed by Bridgette Anderson, a former Ladies of Washington member.
